The kilt Shop has had a rich history of bringing traditional Scottish wear in all its glory to you. Established in 1947, we have been offering quality Highland wear like Scottish Tartans and Gifts that have been loved by every wearer and receiver.
The kilt Shop was started by Alexander Burnside the present owner's grandfather at Dundee and started sourcing these traditional Scottish Tartans and Gifts from authentic craftspeople. He owned a few shops where he offered these beautiful pieces.
The store became popular as more people found these fine Scottish kilts, tartans , gifts and accessories irresistible. Burnside's daughter married enterprising Richard Doig who then joined this by buying out one of his father-in-law's shops. However, Burnside continued trading wonderfully appealing Highland clothing like Scottish Tartans and Gifts in the other one until he retired in 1970 .
The shops grew and expanded thanks to the foresight, quality and aesthetics of these two men. The years rolled by and Richard's four sons Richard, Andrew , Douglas and Alex grew up and brought their own innovative touch to the business. They now run the firm alone since Richard Doig passed away a few years ago. To their credit, they now have shops all over Tayside selling quality Scottish clothing at reasonable prices.
One of the most interesting happenings is the growing interest in Highland clothing like Scottish tartans .In fact it has developed a lot over the past six years with a thriving hire and retail trade in the shops in Forfar, Carnoustie and Montrose. In Forfar alone we hire out an average 1800 Scottish outfits a year. We had acquired Alex Dalgety & Son a business with over 130 years of Highland wear experience and this has made our sales jump.
